The Most Important Exercise For Eliminating Bat-Wings, Saggy, and Flabby Arms
As a trainer, one of the questions that is
most frequently asked of me is "what is the best exercise for getting
rid of sagging arms?"
Now, this is going to sound a little nuts, so prepare yourself... The Squat! Okay, now before you click away, hold on a second and hear me out. I know you're thinking that your legs have absolutely nothing to do with your arms, but I need you to think about this from a different angle. As I've eluded to in past articles,
sagging and jiggly arms are primarily the result of three main problems:
For most women, losing excess body fat will have the biggest and most dramatic visible impact on the arms. Now, to eliminate excess body fat you must increase your metabolism (the amount of calories your body burns throughout the day) such that you end up burning more calories than you take in. This is basically how fat loss works.
The most effective way to do this is by performing exercises that get the largest muscle groups involved - and thus burn more calories. It just so happens that the squat uses more muscle mass than almost every other exercise out there. Think of it this way: Your muscles are an engine that require fuel - and body fat is a prime fuel source. If you want to get rid of all the extra fuel (fat) then which would you prefer? A little wimpy hybrid car that gets 50 miles per gallon, or a big gas guzzling V8? The big V8, of course. It has a bigger engine, has more power, and it needs a LOT more fuel to go the same distance. Your body works essentially in the same way. The bigger the engine, the more fuel burned. It follows suit that the more muscle mass used, the more fat you will burn. It then makes sense to do the exercises that are going to burn up that extra fuel as fast as possible doesn't it? While exercises that shape and tone the muscles do have their necessary place, if you want to eliminate sagging arms then you must start doing exercises that are going to burn up tons of body fat while you work on toning and sculpting too. With the Squat being one of the exercises that uses more muscles than anything else, it makes perfect sense to use it in any program targeted at fat loss. So the moral of the story? If you want to lean out and tone up, then start doing exercises that use the largest muscle groups to burn the most calories, melt the most fat, and that will define your entire body in the process.
